Test us on one subject

Train people for the moment there’s no time to look it up.

Some decisions happen in seconds: a safety call, a suspicious request, an angry customer. We build training that rehearses decision making under pressure, so people make the right call faster.

Sound familiar?

“People need to make the right call when there’s no time to look up the answer.”
“They pass the quiz and freeze in the real situation.”
“The procedure is right, but nobody can recall it under pressure.”
“Our incident reviews keep finding the same hesitation.”

What good looks like

People have practised the moment before it arrives. They recognise the situation, know the first thing to do and who to call. Rehearsal, more than memory, makes the right response come quickly.

How to train decision making under pressure

Some decisions happen in seconds: a safety call, a suspicious request, an angry customer. In that moment nobody looks up the procedure. People do what they’ve practised.

  1. 1

    Find the moments that matter

List the few situations where a fast, wrong decision is costly. Build the training around those, not around the whole policy.

  2. 2

    Rehearse, don’t just explain

People decide better under pressure when they’ve already made the decision in practice. Put them in realistic scenarios and let them choose.

  3. 3

    Show the consequences

Let people see what happens after each choice, good and bad. Our conflicts of interest animation keeps a flight waiting on an ethical decision.

  4. 4

    Make the learner the expert

Asking people to advise someone else makes them think harder than testing them does. In our aviation safety refresher, the learner is the one being asked for advice.

  5. 5

    Keep each role narrow

In a crisis, each person needs to know their own role very well, and only their role. Our crisis team training taught three roles, each in fifteen minutes, ready on the day.
